Hooded Traveling Shawl (2024)

Merino-silk yarn, Navajo rambouillet-mohair yarn, shetland yarn, and wool yarn

Pattern by Ruth Doherty

After collecting single skeins of yarn while traveling, I was inspired to combine them to hand-knit this hooded shawl as a memento of the places I visited. I used stripes, marling, and garter stitch to blend the unique colors and textures of the different yarns to form a cohesive and intentional garment. The hood detail adds a unique visual element to the shawl design, while making it warmer and more functional as a garment for traveling.
