Repurposed chair, Repurposed yarn.
Knitting Chair (2018) is made from a repurposed chair from a defunct dining hall. I disassembled it, sanded two of the spokes into large knitting needles, and used them to knit the pink covering with yarn unraveled from a discarded sweater. I then reconfigured the chair and stretched the knitted fabric around the piece. Through the piece, I engage with the prior lives of the materials, connecting the histories of folk art traditions such as knitting with the mission of Mount Holyoke College as a historically women’s college.
